EDIBLE BULBS

For this project, we were tasked with designing a paper bag for a product within the "bulb" category. Rather than going the traditional route, I decided to think outside the box and reimagine bulbs as a snack.

The concept revolves around a small, rustic

health-focused brand that sells bulbs as a wholesome, on-the-go snack. I wanted the design to feel earthy, fresh, and inviting—something you’d find at a farmer’s market or a cozy natural foods shop.

Could this product be brought to life?

Absolutely. While unconventional, the idea of edible bulbs as a snack isn’t too far-fetched. Many bulbs—like garlic, onions, fennel, and even tulip bulbs—are already edible and used

in various cuisines.

By dehydrating or lightly frying them (similar to veggie chips), they could be transformed into a crunchy, flavorful, and nutrient-dense snack.

For the sides of the bag, I created a playful, organic pattern using abstract bulb-like shapes in varied colors. The goal was to strike a balance between groovy and earthy—something that reflects a

a health-conscious, local brand with a fun personality.

The pattern ties the design together while reinforcing the natural and wholesome vibe of the product.

THE PROCESS:

Since edible bulbs aren’t typically seen as snacks, I wanted to make it immediately clear that this was, in fact, food—and something enjoyable.

To visually emphasize the edibility of the product, I included an illustration of someone actively snacking on the bulbs.

This helped ground the concept in familiarity and added a human, approachable touch.
