PORTSIDE PAWS

Veterinary Clinic Branding Proposal

BRANDING

I gathered some of my favorite moments and stories from last year and turned them into a zine. As someone who loves editorial design, I had an absolute blast bringing it to life!

This zine took a year to make, and every moment was worth it.
From digging through old journals and scrolling through my camera roll, to picking the memories that meant the most, writing about them, and finally diving into my favorite part: the layout. I wanted this zine to feel like a burst of color, texture, and bold, playful type ,
and I think it delivers just that.

ZINES ARE A POWERFUL MEDIUM WHERE DESIGN, STORYTELLING, AND EXPRESSION COME TO LIFE ON PAPER. THEY TURN THOUGHTS INTO TANGIBLE ART—A LITTLE BOOK, A BIG STATEMENT.

THE PROCESS:

Designing the layout started with structure — a custom grid to give the zine a strong foundation.
Then came the hours (too many) spent narrowing down three typefaces and a bold color palette.

Once I had my assets locked in, I let loose — experimenting with oversized titles, sideways text,

and playful overlaps with images.

Near the end, something still felt off. That’s when I decided to transform some of the photos into duotones and monotones using my chosen colors — and suddenly, it all clicked. From there, the final

details fell perfectly into place.

This project was awarded Best of Show at the 2025

Salt Lake Community College Student Art Showcase.

I love making zines because they let me revisit different chapters of my life and translate emotions, thoughts, and experiences into design. Explaining feelings through color, showcasing adventures with imagery—every page is a chance to tell a story in the most visually compelling way. Editorial design is not just a process for me; it’s a passion.
